The Klamath IDEA — Inspire Development, Energize Acceleration — will host its next IDEA Talk from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at MC’s on Main, according to a news release.
This month’s Big IDEA feature presenter is Leon Wolf of Oregon Best. Oregon Best connects clean tech startups with state and federal resources, while preparing them for follow-on investment. Wolf is the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Technology Transfer Research (STTR) support center manager.
The federal SBIR and the STTR programs annually provide $2.5 billion in funding to small businesses that have innovations and technologies with commercial potential. Wolf, an experienced grant writer and SBIR/STTR specialist, will provide an informational presentation on the basics of the SBIR/STTR program, how to decide if it’s right for your business, and will give advice and resources to help find funding opportunities and prepare proposals. In addition to a Q&A period following the presentation, Wolf will be available for one-on-one consultations.
Through a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Oregon Best is providing additional sponsorship to allow Klamath Community College and Oregon Tech students to attend this month’s talk for free. Students only need to bring a current student ID card.
“Oregon Best really seeks to find Oregon-grown solutions to global challenges. Clean-tech encompasses a lot of innovation. I encourage anyone with science-based solutions to come and learn if this could be a funding possibility for them,” said Kat Rutledge, leader of Klamath IDEA.
Klamath IDEA is a community initiative, supported by both entrepreneurs and economic development partners and is dedicated to the development of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. IDEA Talks are gatherings designed as a networking opportunity for community members with an entrepreneurial mindset, and who are interested in learning, networking, and being inspired.
“We believe entrepreneurship and innovation are the keys to reshaping the economic foundation of our region,” Rutledge said. “These talks are about getting people out and participating in that change.”
MC’s on Main is at 617 Main St. Light refreshments, prepared by MC’s on Main, will be available as well as a no-host bar. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $5, cash only, at the door. The admission fee helps sustain the Klamath IDEA initiative.
